Utility payments and other services return to the city of Winston-Salem's website

The city of Winston-Salem announced this week online payments for utilities and other services are now operational through its website.

These systems were shut down for over a month following a Dec. 26 cyberattack. During a press conference in January, City Manager Patrick Pate confirmed the attack had been caused by an “unauthorized actor.”

At the time, Pate said the investigation, which included local, state and federal agencies, was ongoing. The city has not shared more details on the attack since then.

Restoration of online payments means Winston-Salem and Forsyth County utilities, plan review fees and parking tickets are all payable through the city’s website.

According to a press release, balances for utilities will include water, sewer and stormwater bills through Dec. 23 of last year.

No late fees will be charged to these accounts. Billing will resume the week of Feb. 17.
