Three finalists named in Davidson-Davie Community College president's search

The Board of Trustees of Davidson-Davie Community College has narrowed the field of candidates for its next president to three finalists.

Among those in the running is Travis Reed, who has served as superintendent of Surry County Schools since 2013 and is a former superintendent in Ashe County.

Another candidate is current acting president Jenny Varner, who previously served as vice president for external affairs and executive director of the foundation for the college. She’s been on the president’s senior leadership team for 15 years.

The third finalist is Chad Breeden, who has had a long career in the military. He’s currently an analyst supporting the United States Naval Community College, working with administrators to develop associate degree and certificate programs.

The finalists are vying to replace past president Darrin Hartness, who died in July at the age of 54. He had been president since 2019 after a lengthy career in education that included serving as superintendent of Davie County Schools.

A final decision is expected in November.
