Program looks to provide education on how to raise and protect honey bees

The American Innovative Beekeeper Academy, based in Clemmons, is looking to educate the public on how to raise honey bees with courses in February.

Founder Ali Mousavi recently received his master's in beekeeping from Cornell University. Now he says he wants to share that knowledge with others.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, around one-third of what Americans eat comes from crops pollinated by honey bees.

Mousavi says if their population diminishes it could affect everyone.

"The solution to this is in my hand and every individual citizen's hand," he says. "We are able to protect the bees and give them a good environment, and make sure that we have a good pollinator."

His program will teach people how to inspect, protect, and monitor their own hives. According to data released in June, honey bee hives in America faced the second-highest death rate on record between 2022 and 2023.
