Winston-Salem-based Novant Health has announced it is reducing its workforce by more than 150 positions.

A spokesperson for the health system says the layoffs are part of a plan to redesign its organization. Most of the 160 jobs affected are management or administrative positions.

The statement did not say where in its network the cuts would occur. There are about 36,000 workers across its system.

"In a challenging healthcare environment, we are focused on how we can work differently to prioritize direct patient care, operate more efficiently, and reimagine how we serve our patients," Novant says in its release.

Novant Health has a strong presence in the Triad with medical centers in Winston-Salem, Clemmons, Kernersville, and Thomasville.

As of 2021, it was Forsyth County’s second-largest employer, according to figures from Greater Winston-Salem Inc.

Novant says the workforce reduction will not affect its ability to deliver high-quality care to its patients and communities.
