More than 200 will lose jobs with High Point distribution center closure

The closure of a distribution center in North High Point with ties to HanesBrands will result in the loss of more than 200 jobs.

National Distribution Centers LLC notified state and local officials that it would permanently close its facility on Eagle Hill Drive at the end of the year.

217 jobs will be eliminated as a result.

The site was under contract to HanesBrands to handle its Champion line of products. A company spokesperson says a decision was made to not renew the contract, which is up at the end of the year.

Last month, HanseBrands’ leaders announced that the company would undertake an evaluation of strategic options for its Champion line, known for its athletic apparel, workout clothes, and collegiate wear.

Under the review, the board is expected to consider a range of options that could include selling the Champion brand.

In August, HanesBrands announced its second-quarter results, which noted that global sales of Champion products decreased by 16 percent compared to last year.

The company cited challenging activewear market dynamics for the decline.
