Masks are now optional at Piedmont Triad International Airport

EMILY MCCORD/WFDD

Passengers at Piedmont Triad International Airport are no longer required to wear masks.

In a press release, PTI officials said the Transportation Security Administration will no longer be enforcing a mask requirement at the airport following a federal court ruling on Monday.

This means masks are now optional on all airport grounds. Individual airlines can still choose to impose their own masking rules. So far though Delta, American, United, and Southwest airlines have all opted to get rid of their mandates.

Passenger travel at PTI has rebounded significantly since the start of the pandemic. The latest statistics show traffic up by 157% year-over-year. And the total number of scheduled departing seats this month has more than doubled since last April, meaning more flights are now leaving from PTI.

Overall passenger traffic is still down by about 27% compared to 2019.
