Greensboro officials are looking to update the city's land development ordinance this year to increase housing options.

At a recent City Council work session, Planning Director Sue Schwartz said past discriminatory zoning practices can still impact today's housing supply. This includes land-use restrictions that only allow for single family homes.

Schwartz said a mixed residential zoning district could create more variety in housing. Allowing for more flexibility with accessory dwelling units in the city is another option.

Schwartz said staff is carefully reviewing any possible changes.

The Planning Department will bring a draft of an ordinance before City Council in the fall.
