Cities throughout the Piedmont Triad have a number of cooling centers and resources available as temperatures are expected to soar throughout the week.
Temperatures are projected to surpass 90 degrees with high humidity levels. The city of Greensboro's heat relief efforts are activated when its 95 degrees or higher.
The city's Department of Community Safety is distributing water at Greensboro Police headquarters from noon to 5 p.m. this week. The GSO Mobile outreach team, which assists the homeless, is also providing hydration bags throughout the community.
Oak Street Health has two cooling centers available in Greensboro on Summit Avenue and on West Gate City Boulevard, open Monday through Friday.
The Interactive Resource Center is also extending its hours through Thursday to remain open until 5 p.m.
In High Point, individuals can visit the Salvation Army, Oak Street Health and The Oakwood Day Center to escape high temperatures.
In Winston-Salem, the city's recreation centers will be available as cooling stations. Individuals can cool off in the lobby area during business hours.
Those without shelter can visit the community resource center, City with Dwellings, between 2 and 4 p.m. The Bethesda Center for the Homeless is also open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Local officials are cautioning individuals to stay indoors as much as possible to limit exposure to the sun this week.
