Governor Josh Stein met with elected officials and advocates at the North Carolina Rehabilitation and Reentry Conference in Raleigh on Tuesday.

Stein emphasized his stance on enhancing the process of reintroducing formerly imprisoned people back into society.

First Lady Anna Stein will serve on the Joint Reentry Council, which was established under former Gov. Roy Cooper in 2024. The Council aims to reduce recidivism and promote public safety.

Governor Stein’s proposed budget includes educational programs for incarcerated persons, as well as raises for correctional officers.
