Piedmont Triad International Airport, state agencies brace for holiday travel

Piedmont Triad International Airport and state agencies are preparing for a surge in travel over the holiday weekend.

The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, is projecting it will screen around 18 million people over the next week. This is a 6% increase over last year.

At PTI, numbers are similarly rising. According to a news release, there are 10% more flights this month as compared to 2023. Passengers are asked to prepare ahead and arrive early to the airport over the weekend.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has also announced it's suspending most construction on major highways for holiday travel.

Where possible, work along interstates and key state routes will be stopped through Dec. 2.
