The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confirmed it’s using the Greensboro Influx Care Facility — the former American Hebrew Academy — as a training and processing site. The location was previously expected to be used for people displaced after Helene.

A FEMA spokesperson said in a statement that staff began using the facility on Oct. 6 to prepare its team to assist with recovery efforts across the state. The site is expected to be used in this capacity for at least six months.

It’s anticipated that around 100 personnel will receive training there each week.

According to the statement, FEMA is now hiring additional personnel, including community liaisons, to continue assisting those in need.
