The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that two juveniles have been charged in relation to violent threats made against two middle schools in Winston-Salem.
According to a media release, they’ve been charged with one, and two counts respectively, of communicating threats of mass violence on school property, which is a felony in North Carolina.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools officials say administrators at Northwest Middle School and Flat Rock Middle School were made aware of concerning social media posts earlier this week. Both schools notified parents of the posts, and that the district was working with law enforcement to investigate them.
Extra officers and metal detectors have been placed at those schools. Random, unannounced checks will continue as part of the schools’ safety plans.
Parents are encouraged to stay vigilant in monitoring their children’s use of social media.
The latest charges come less than a week after the sheriff’s office investigated a bomb threat made at Parkland High School, where nothing was found.
