Snow is once again expected in the Piedmont and High Country this weekend

For the third time in as many weeks, winter weather is on its way to the Triad.

A winter weather advisory is already in effect for the High Country. In the Piedmont, it begins this evening at 6 p.m. Both are set to expire Saturday morning.

Jimmy Traeger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says they're expecting up to three inches of snow overnight, and forecasted cooler temperatures through the weekend mean much of it will stick around.

“Our highs only could be around 30 degrees. So it may melt on some roads that end up heating up with the sun," Traeger said. "But otherwise, in a lot of areas it will stick throughout the day.”

Temperatures on Sunday are expected to be even cooler, with lows in the teens. That could lead to icy conditions on some roadways.

Traeger says drivers should use caution when traveling, or avoid it altogether.
