Former President Trump Scheduled To Speak At NC GOP Convention

Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at North Carolina's annual state Republican convention in Greenville next month.

Trump hasn't made many public appearances since leaving office in May, but he has recently teased the idea of bringing back his rallies.

North Carolina may be a key state to test a potential comeback. It's a swing state he narrowly carried in 2020. His daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, has not yet publicly ruled out a 2022 U.S. Senate run here and has expressed interest in the contest.

Donald Trump has also hinted he might run for president again in 2024 but has not yet announced a decision.

He also has strong support among the state's Republican congressional delegation. All but one of North Carolina's eight GOP congressional representatives voted in favor of challenging votes to certify Joe Biden's victory. The lone exception was 10th District Rep. Patrick McHenry.

North Carolina GOP party leaders are hoping he'll keep playing a role in state politics and help the party in the upcoming 2022 midterms.

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that former President Donald Trump carried the state of North Carolina in 2022. He actually carried the state in 2020.
