NC Elections Officials Getting Closer To Completing Vote Count

TED S. WARREN/AP

State elections officials say they're “nearing the finish line” when it comes to tallying the votes from last week's election.

Seven county boards of elections met Monday to count absentee by mail ballots that have arrived at their offices since Election Day. Ten boards of elections met last Friday, and they'll continue to meet through the end of the week.

County boards are allowed to count ballots that arrive through November 12, as long as they were postmarked by Election Day. Boards have received more than 30,000 eligible ballots in the past several days.

In a press release, State Board Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell urged voters to remain patient while counting continues and results are certified.

Elections officials say they have been inundated with calls from voters asking whether their ballots were counted.

You can check on the status of your ballot by using the voter search tool on the State Board of Elections website.
