Across the Blue Ridge at Reynolda House!

Destitute pea pickers in California
Dorothea Lange. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C., no known publication restrictions.
Dorothea Lange's iconic 1936 photo, "Destitute Pea Pickers in California".

Across the Blue Ridge is producing a special concert in conjunction with the exhibit Dorothea Lange's America at Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem, NC.  Tickets are on sale now for this concert featuring American songster Dom Flemons; bluegrass pioneer Alice Gerrard, Virginia singer Kay Justice, Terri McMurray and me.  We hope you can join us Saturday, October 6 at 3PM.  Admission fee also gains you entrance to the stunning exhibition of Lange's photographs documenting Dust Bowl America.

Our concert, titled Hard Times & Hope, will include songs of the Dust Bowl migrations and songs of the Blue Ridge, connecting our region to the suffering, upheaval and ultimate optimism of the Depression era and today. We will produce a radio episode from the concert, and we hope you can join us for the live performance and the photo exhibition at Reynolda.

Former 88.5 WFDD News Director Paul Brown founded Across the Blue Ridge at WFDD in the late 1980s. It was an instant hit, and was broadcast on WFDD for more than a decade until Paul left to become an executive editor, producer, reporter, and world newscaster at NPR in Washington, DC. Now Paul is back in his beloved Blue Ridge region, his journalism and storytelling skills honed better than ever. He's ready to present more music, share discussion with more interesting characters, and be your friend and guide in discovery. Paul is actively involved in today's acoustic music scene, crisscrossing the region and the country as a teacher, performer, and interviewer.
