Textile Company Will Create Winston-Salem Jobs In Exchange For Public Funds

A Turkish textile company is planning to create almost 400 jobs in Winston-Salem, in exchange for some economic incentives.

Tukek Holding Inc. says it can create up to 390 textile jobs in Winston-Salem. This comes on the heels of its purchase of the assets of the defunct Microfibres Inc.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports that in return, Tukek is requesting up to $125,000 in performance-based incentives from the city over seven years, to help offset capital expenses for its startup company, HBFabrics Inc. The company will likely ask the same from Forsyth County.

Tukek has told city officials it plans to spend almost $4 million to upgrade the former Microfibres facility, and purchase new equipment.

The Winston-Salem City Council will consider the company's request at a public hearing June 19th.
