More than 600 textile jobs are coming to North Carolina, a state heavily-reliant on the industry. Gov. Pat McCrory made the announcement Tuesday.
Everest Textile Co. Ltd. will set up a plant in the Rutherford County town of Forest City. The Taiwan-based company manufactures performance textiles used in sports and outdoor clothing.
According to the Associated Press, the jobs will pay around $26,000 per year. That's less than the average Rutherford County wage of $32,000.
Rutherford County is still working to recover from years of job losses in textiles and manufacturing. Its unemployment rate is one of the highest in the state, at 6.1 percent.
Everest picked the North Carolina location over competition from two of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere - Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
A state committee approved over $5 million in tax breaks and incentives for the company.
