Triad To Do: University Performances And A Book Reading By Taylor Brown

On today's Triad To Do, David shares a variety of offerings from Piedmont universities.

High Point University: The first Chamber Music Series concert of 2016, to be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24 in the Charles E. Hayworth Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public. The program will feature HPU Bassoon Instructor Mark Hekman performing chamber music influenced by musical traditions from around the world.

UNCSA: Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performs on Sunday, January 24th at 2pm in Watson Hall. Music for piano, violin, viola and cello with Chamber Music Society artistic co-director, the incredible Wu Han on piano.

UNCG: The Southeast String Festival Concert is Sunday afternoon at 1pm in the Recital Hall. Admission is free. The 6th Annual Southeast Honors String Festival hosted at UNCG is an intensive three-day festival for students in grades 9-12, and it caps off with the big concert Sunday.

WFU: Classical guitarist Carlos Perez, performs at WFU Sunday afternoon Jan. 24th at 3:00pm in Kulynych Auditorium. It's music in dialogue with poetry. That performance was scheduled for Saturday and postponed due to the snow.

Bethany recommends you check out the book reading and signing by Taylor Brown in Greensboro. Taylor's debut novel, Fallen Land, is now out (from St. Martin's Press). Brown's first short story collection, In the Season of Blood and Gold, was published by Press 53 in Winston-Salem. Brown will be at the Barnes and Noble in Greensboro (Northline Avenue) at 2pm on Saturday, January 23rd.  

Bethany is WFDD's editorial director. She joined the staff in the fall of 2012. She received her B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from Wake Forest University. Between undergraduate studies and graduate school, Bethany served as the intern to Talk of the Nation at NPR in D.C., participating in live NPR Election Night Coverage, Presidential debate broadcasts, regular Talk of the Nation shows, and helping to plan the inaugural broadcast of ‘Talk of the World.' She enjoys engaging with her interests in books, politics, and art in the interdisciplinary world of public radio. Before becoming editorial director, Bethany was assistant news Director, a reporter and associate producer for WFDD's Triad Arts and Triad Arts Weekend. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Bethany enjoys calling the Piedmont home.
Before his arrival in the Triad, David had already established himself as a fixture in the Austin, Texas arts scene as a radio host for Classical 89.5 KMFA. During his tenure there, he produced and hosted hundreds of programs including Mind Your Music, The Basics and T.G.I.F. Thank Goodness, It's Familiar, which each won international awards in the Fine Arts Radio Competition. As a radio journalist with 88.5 WFDD, his features have been recognized by the Associated Press, Public Radio News Directors Inc., Catholic Academy of Communication Professionals, and Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas. David has written and produced national stories for NPR, KUSC and CPRN in Los Angeles and conducted interviews for Minnesota Public Radio's Weekend America.
