A Rockingham County commissioner has been sentenced to prison almost a year after he was first charged with drinking and driving. Keith Mabe was sentenced to 60 days, effective immediately.
A Forsyth Superior Court judge sentenced Mabe on two misdemeanor counts of DWI and one count of possession of an open container. A plea deal accepted by Mabe dismissed several other charges of reckless driving and possession of prescription medications.
Mabe, who is 61, also received 24 months of probation, fines and community service hours.
In a statement, attorney Wayne Hollowell says Mabe "accepts responsibility for his actions."
Mabe's convictions stem from two incidents in December and July. He pleaded guilty in September to drunken driving in both incidents and having an open container in the second instance.
Mabe will retain his seat on the Rockingham County Board for the immediate future.
