The police department faced criticism online after an Indiana group posted a video of officers not immediately arresting the man after being dispatched.

The department is facing scrutiny for how it handled the report of an alleged sexual predator by the outside group.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the case, and the two officers involved have been placed on administrative duty.

Cheeks has served in many roles with High Point police prior to his appointment including interim chief of police and commander of the investigations section.

Stroud is stepping down effective Nov. 30, and High Point city officials have already posted the position. They’re seeking candidates with a college degree and at least 10 years of law enforcement experience.

According to a press release, the Congresswoman and a staff member were treated and released from a local hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The staff member was not named.
