A $4 million Preschool Development Grant will benefit the state’s Family Child Care Home (FCCH) network, which provides care for about 8,000 children in home settings statewide.

According to a news release from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the federal funding will allow for additional professional provider training, along with tools that can enhance curriculum.

The goal is to widen the availability and enhance the quality of care for families in the FCCH network, which includes over 1,200 homes throughout the state.

Those family child care homes often cater to parents who work non-traditional hours and are more likely to serve people of color and low-income residents. The settings can serve infants and toddlers, children with disabilities, and children residing in rural areas.
