North Carolina A&T State University attendees spoke out at a student civic rally Wednesday. Many addressed barriers they feel they face in terms of voting.
The forum comes after the Guilford County Board of Elections decided earlier this year not to include a polling place on campus for the upcoming midterms.
“Having that voting poll site on campus is so, so, so important, especially for incoming freshman students who may have most likely never voted before," Jaelle Garvin, a first-year political science student, said.
Organizers say her testimony, along with others, will be submitted to the congressional record with the hope of shaping future voting legislation.
It’s a partnership between the voting rights organization Fair Elections Center and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
