State Rep. Cecil Brockman resigns after being charged with sex crimes

N.C. General Assembly

North Carolina Representative Cecil Brockman has resigned weeks after being arrested on sexual misconduct charges.

FOX8 reports House Democratic Leader Robert Reives said he was glad Brockman voluntarily stepped down, calling the allegations serious and saying they made it impossible for him to serve effectively.

The Guilford County Democrat was arrested earlier this month on four felony charges related to alleged indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape of a 15-year-old.

The Guilford County Democratic Party will appoint a replacement to fill his seat.
