High Point Mayor Cyril Jefferson has filed to run for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District seat in 2026.

According to federal paperwork filed on Tuesday, he’s establishing a principal campaign committee called “Cyril for Congress.”

The seat he seeks represents Davidson, Davie and Rowan counties as well as parts of Guilford and Forsyth. It’s currently represented by Republican Addison McDowell, who is seeking re-election.

Jefferson, a Democrat, was first elected High Point mayor in 2023. His term is set to expire in 2027.
