Authorities are investigating after an inmate was found dead at the Forsyth County Detention Center Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old Russell Edwards Marshall was unresponsive when discovered by staff during rounds.

The release says that staff initiated CPR and called medical personnel, including Forsyth County EMS, but Marshall could not be resuscitated. He had been in the medical dorm at the detention center due to “a series of medical conditions.”

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent review of the incident.
