The American Red Cross says there’s currently an urgent need for blood.
Officials with the organization say there has been an alarming drop in scheduled donations, which account for 90 percent of all blood donations.
This comes on the cusp of the summer season, which can bring an increase in severe injuries from car and ATV accidents, sports-related injuries and other summer activities. Travel and school breaks, combined with severe weather, can disrupt blood drives entirely.
Residents are urged to secure appointments by visiting the Red Cross website, using the donor app, or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
