Davidson County school board member resigns after injuring student in crash, charged with DWI

A Davidson County School Board member resigned this week following a crash that left a student in the district injured.

According to FOX8, Ashley Carroll has been charged with driving while intoxicated, open containers and failure to yield the right of way.

The report says Carroll hit an oncoming car while making a left turn. Occupants of the other vehicle, which included a 14-year-old student, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Carroll submitted her immediate resignation to the Davidson County Board of Education the following afternoon, according to a statement from the district.

The board will soon begin the process of filling the vacancy.
