Health officials issue warning after radiation camera stolen in Kernersville

State health officials are issuing an urgent warning after a camera containing radioactive material was stolen in Kernersville.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services says the device, a SPEC-150 industrial radiography camera, was taken from a pickup truck parked at a Sleep Inn motel on Heartland Drive overnight Wednesday. It was reported missing the next day.

The department is urging anyone who sees the 50-pound camera to stay at least 30 feet away, as the material inside of it is hazardous.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call local law enforcement or 911.
