Guilford County Schools Responds To News Of Canceled Bus Driver Strike

The Guilford County Schools Administrative Building in Greensboro, NC. BETHANY CHAFIN/WFDD

News outlets are reporting a planned bus driver strike in Guilford County has been called off.

The school district was preparing for bus drivers to be absent on Monday and Tuesday.

WFMY reports strike plans were changed after bus drivers met with the district on Thursday. Details of that meeting have not been released.

Drivers are concerned about wages and access to health insurance.

In a statement, district officials said while they anticipate bus drivers will work on Monday as usual, “because of the confusion surrounding this issue and the ongoing driver shortage, some buses may run behind schedule.”

Sixty Guilford County bus driver positions are currently vacant.
