The survey was open to both undergraduate as well as graduate and professional school students. Results show that over 20 percent of all UNC-Chapel Hill respondents reported experiencing nonconsensual sexual touching or penetration.

That percentage was higher among undergraduate women respondents, at just over 35 percent. The majority said the offender was another student, often known to them.

The Association of American Universities and their partners conducted the research with 33 institutions participating. Data for UNC-Chapel Hill was collected in the spring.

The school was part of a similar survey in 2015, with participation up this year.
