Judge Rules For Elon University In Discrimination Lawsuit

A federal court judge has ruled in favor of Elon University in a lawsuit which claimed the school passed over a Hispanic worker for a promotion.

The Times-News of Burlington reports a U.S. District Court in North Carolina ruled Monday that Teofilo Matias failed to prove he was significantly more qualified than the man who got the job he wanted. The judge also ruled Matias failed to prove discrimination was the motivation for a sexual harassment investigation against him.

Matias sued after he was fired in 2016, saying the university hired a less qualified white man to replace his supervisor without posting the job. He also said he was fired him after a rushed investigation into a sexual harassment charge while another white employee kept his job following similar allegations.
