High Point Announces Name For New Baseball Team

When the first pitch is thrown at BB&T Point, the home team will be the High Point Rockers.

The winning name for the AAA minor league baseball team comes after nearly 3,000 suggestions were submitted by the public. The list was then whittled down to finalists like Dragon Claws and Splinters.

High Point Baseball Inc. says Rockers not only represents a “rock ‘n' roll energy” coming to downtown, but it's also a nod to High Point's history of furniture manufacturing.

In fact, the multi-colored logo depicts an actual rocking chair, with baseball hand grips and flames shooting from the rocker's runners.

High Point leaders say the public-private project will revitalize a downtown that's been languishing for a long time.

If all stays on schedule, the High Point Rockers will start playing games in the spring of 2019.
