The RiverRun International Film Festival is in full swing at venues across the Triad.

The festival started in Brevard, NC, in 1998, but it has called Winston-Salem home since 2003. For this year, the organizers have packed in 165 films from 40 countries, running the gamut from documentaries to animated shorts. There's also a section of the event highlighting North Carolina films.

The festival is giving its Masters of Cinema awards this year to Academy Award-winning film editor and director Chuck Workman, and actress Piper Laurie. She attended a screening of her classic film The Hustler on Sunday.

The event wraps up on April 29th with Hearts Beat Loud. The movie stars Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson on the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation, as a father who bonds with his daughter over music. It was directed by former UNCSA student Brett Haley.

Screenings will take place at theatres including UNCSA, a/perture cinema and RED Cinema in Greensboro.
