Friday Is Deadline For Voter Registration In NC

KERI BROWN/WFDD

Friday is the last day to register to vote in North Carolina for this year's election.

Interest is high in November's election, with almost 200,000 additional voters added to the rolls compared to mid-October 2012, according to figures from the State Board of Elections.

Democrats have an edge in the total number of registered voters in the state - more than 2.6 million - despite the fact that their numbers are down a bit from four years ago. And there's only been a slight uptick in the number of GOP voters, bringing them over the 2-million mark as well.

The big change is the number of unaffiliated voters, which has surged about 20 percent, putting them also over the 2-million mark and not far behind the Republican numbers.

State residents who miss the Friday deadline but still want to vote can take advantage of same-day registration during early voting. That begins Oct. 20 and runs through Nov. 5. There is no same-day registration on election day, Nov. 8.

More information on voter registration can be found at the State Board of Election's website
