Commentary: Modeling and Masala

From left to right: Emily Zemola, Kaaviya Sambasivam, Emily Wakeman, Kaitryana Leinbach, and Juliana Morehouse at the 2015 Miss North Carolina Teen pageant.

Radio 101 commentator, Kaaviya Sambasivam talks about being inspired by Nina Davuluri, the first Indian American to win the Miss America pageant. Davaluri inspired Kaaviya to participate in the 2015 Miss North Carolina Teen pageant and helped her realize dark skinned women are beautiful, too.

Radio 101 is WFDD's education program for high school students. It teaches interested students about journalism, technology, personal reflection and storytelling. This year's Radio 101 partners are RJ Reynolds High School and The STEM Early College at North Carolina A&T.
