Community Safety Director Latisha McNeil has won the National Offices of Violence Prevention Network's Trailblazer of the Year Award for her efforts to reduce city violence.

North Carolina received $3.5 million in federal Victim of Crime Act funds. It's a far cry from it's peak of more than $100 million just a few years ago, and it comes as the violent crime rate in many of North Carolina’s rural areas is on the rise.
