Officials with Alamance County Sheriff’s Office say there have been more than 430 fraud cases assigned to detectives in the last 20 months. The average loss per citizen in those cases is $33,000.

Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough is warning citizens about the rise in phone scams and raising awareness about people who use the names of local officers to persuade victims to pay.

Guilford County law enforcement officials are warning residents of a phone scam involving a caller falsely trying to collect money for missed jury duty.

Last year the North Carolina Department of Justice Consumer Protection Division received more than 21,000 complaints. Many of them were over scams.
