The city of Greensboro and the T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society are asking community members to help protect migrating birds by turning off their lights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. It's part of the conservation initiative called Lights Out for Birds.

Millions of birds pass through North Carolina during this time each year, and artificial lights can disorient them.
