A suspect was charged Saturday in the fatal shooting of a teen girl who was walking home from school when she was hit by a stray bullet during a street dispute in New York City.
Mayor Eric Adams previously said it was unfair that a loophole in the vaccine rule allowed unvaccinated, visiting players and performers who don't work in New York to still play or perform.
In a surveillance video released by police, the suspect is shown punching the victim in the face and head more than 125 times. He is being charged with attempted murder.
New York will no longer require masks in most indoor public settings, but they will still be required in schools and health care facilities. Several other states have made similar moves this week.
Monday's ruling that overturned the mandate caused confusion, with some school administrators quickly announcing masks would be optional and others continuing to enforce wearing them.
