A new study indicates that Wake County is the healthiest county in North Carolina.  And Triad counties range from 8th to 56th.

The county-by-county health report, released this week by the University of Wisconsin, ranks counties nationwide.  In preparing the study, factors such as smoking, drinking, motor vehicle fatalities, premature death, sexually-transmitted diseases, the number of physicians and dentists in a county, socio-economic factors and the physical environment are considered.  The study's web site says The Rankings are "based on a model of population health that emphasizes the many factors that, if improved, can help make communities healthier places to live, learn, work and play."

Wake County, home of the state capitol, was ranked the healthiest in the state.  In the Triad, Davie County ranked number 8, Guilford County number 13, Forsyth comes in at 28, Randolph County is ranked 36th, and Davidson is 56th.

Columbus County,  on the South Carolina border in the southeastern part of the state, is ranked as the least healthy.  Most of the unhealthiest counties are in the southeastern or northeastern areas of North Carolina, and the healthiest tend to be near the cities.
