Rick Dawson, owner of Rich Strike and RED TR-Racing, said the horse will skip the next stop of the Triple Crown and get some rest before the third race in the series, the Belmont Stakes, in New York.

Churchill Downs, the racing venue, said it worked with health officials to develop a plan that would allow the race to take place amid concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

The 3-year-old colt beat Destin by a nose, coming from behind down the stretch. It was the fourth time the Belmont was decided by a nose — the closest possible margin of victory.

Instead of turning in a $2 ticket that would pay $3.80 for American Pharoah winning the Belmont Stakes, most people who bought them are stashing them away.

The colt ran to victory in the Belmont Stakes Saturday, after winning the Derby and the Preakness. He's the first horse since 1978 to achieve what some call the most difficult feat in sports.
