Greensboro’s first crosstown bus route is set to launch next week. The Crossmax Purple line emerged from the city’s long-range transit plan known as GoBORO. One overarching goal: make the Gate City car-optional by 2045.

To reach that milestone, Greensboro Transit Agency officials have called for increased investment to expand bus services and make them more user-friendly. Crossmax Purple will take passengers between east and west Greensboro — without the need for a transfer — in about an hour.

Transit Director Reginald Mason calls the new route a game changer for GTA and the city.

"Those who want a faster, quicker, convenient service can ride the Crossmax," says Mason. "If you want to get from one end of town to the other, that’ll be the quickest way to do it. So, it’s for all, but we want to ensure that the folks in East Greensboro have access to retail out in West Greensboro, and also to jobs, connecting both communities."

Mason says rides will be available every 15 minutes during peak hours.

The fare will remain the same as current fixed routes, but, in celebration of the launch, rides on Crossmax Purple will be free for one week beginning March 4th.
