The City of Greensboro is allocating more money for the construction of the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.

City Council voted Tuesday to add $2.6 million to the project's budget.

Matt Brown is with project partner Greensboro Coliseum. Brown noted much of that money is coming from private sources, not the public. He says just over $2 million was provided by sponsors including Wrangler Jeans, Our State Magazine, and Pepsi Bottling Ventures.

“All of which is non-taxpayer funding," he says. "It's key to complete all these components that we have and ensures what our commitment was – that this project would be done without taxpayer dollars.”

The News & Record reports the remaining money is coming from other non-taxpayer sources including fees on ticket sales.

The total budget for the project is now approaching $93 million. The center is set to open in the spring of this year.
