The City of Greensboro’s Transgender Task Force is hosting its second annual summit on Saturday.

Liz Lennon, the commissions administrator for the city’s Human Rights department, said it was important for the Transgender Task Force to focus specifically on youth for the summit this year.

"It's already a challenge for an adult, you know, with all of the ignorance, unfortunately, in this world that they have to face of just being who they are," Lennon said. "But you can imagine for our youth, you know, it's a lot of things that they are not even mentally developed yet to try to go up against. And so this is a day that they are in a safe space.”

Local LGBTQ organizations will be at the event to answer questions and provide information about recent legislation, and resources for things like medical care, mental health, and housing.

The summit will be held from 9 to 4 p.m. at Lindley Recreation Center.
