Wake Forest University has received a $5 million dollar gift to strengthen its work on environmental and sustainability issues.

The investment comes from the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation. The goal is to support environmental research, education, and outreach through collaborations both on campus and with global partners.

According to a news release, the work will revolve around issues including climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental contamination, and the depletion of vital natural resources.

The new Andrew Sabin Family Center for Environment and Sustainability will further the work begun by Wake Forest’s Center for the Environment, Energy and Sustainability (CEES).

Miles Silman, the founding director of CEES, will co-lead the Sabin Center with Stan Meiburg, a former deputy administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Meiburg says the center will act as an “essential connecting hub” for multiple disciplines, utilizing input from the schools of business, law, divinity, and medicine.
