While living in Florence Italy, author Robert Edsel became curious as to how so many monuments and great works of art survived the theft and devastation of World War II.

This passion developed into an exploration of the 'Monuments Men', the unsung heroes who saved some of the world's great cultural treasures. His findings were recounted in several books and a film starring George Clooney.

Edsel discovered that one of the Monuments Men was Dr. Frank P. Albight, an important figure in the restoration of Old Salem.

Old Salem Museum and Gardens is presenting a lecture by Robert Edsel at the Stevens Center in Winston-Salem, Wednesday, October 1st at 7pm.

WFDD's Neal Charnoff spoke with Edsel about his research, and about the role Albirght played as one of the Monuments Men.
