Walmart and other retailers are counting visitors as one way to enforce social distancing and reduce the spread of the virus.

Citing the pandemic's "heavy toll" on its business, Macy's says it's furloughing the majority of its employees. Its stores have been closed since March 18 and there's no sign when they will reopen.

Three companies have announced that they are acquiring the retailer aimed at teens and young people, and plan to continue to operate its U.S. and international stores.

The retail chain Macy's is scaling back, and the Winston-Salem location is among the stores that will close this year.

The bar code is now a packaging mainstay, but it probably wouldn't have worked without George Laurer.

The luxury department store chain is opening a 320,000- square-foot store in Manhattan as retailers such as Barneys and Forever 21 file for bankruptcy and more competition comes from online brands.

The popular fashion retailer is the latest in a long list of brands to fall victim to online retailers and less foot traffic in malls. The company said it may close up to 178 U.S. stores.

The company's CFO, Steven Taylor, called it a difficult decision but said the "chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today's retail environment."

The reatiler is betting that easy returns will drive foot traffic to its stores. Shares of Kohl's stock spiked with the news.
