A federal judge in California wants all minors who were apprehended crossing into the U.S. alone to be released in an orderly fashion. But she refrained from mandating their immediate release.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement is telling migrant shelters to scale back on activities that are "not directly necessary for the protection of life and safety."

Opponents of the Trump administration's family separation policy say migrant children are not safe in government custody. Administration officials say most of the allegations are unproved.
