Robert Adams' obsession with the decay and beauty of the American landscape is on display at the National Gallery's exhibition "American Silence: The Photographs of Robert Adams."
The Los Angeles-area Huntington Museum and London's National Gallery are swapping two paintings: Thomas Gainsborough's Blue Boy for Joseph Wright of Derby's An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump.
The federally funded museum has been accused of "institutional misconduct" including racism and sexual harassment. A petition claimed some employees call it "the last plantation on the National Mall."
Both artists, Chuck Close and Thomas Roma, have been subjects of recent accusations by multiple women. The museum says it is "not the appropriate time to present these installations."
A man entered The National Gallery in London on Saturday afternoon, approached a painting by British master Thomas Gainsborough and proceeded to attack it with a "sharp object," the museum says.
